All workstations in the IDSC lab are loaded with a standard set of applications and related tools, such as web browsers, media players, and FTP utilities. Workstations are further divided into specialty areas for media development (i.e. web, graphics, video) and are loaded with industry-standard software. Both Mac and Windows platforms have equivalent hardware and software allowing lab users to work in the operating system of their choice.
Workshops are offered throughout the academic year by the Office of Information Technologies and are available to PSU faculty, staff, and students at no cost. To register for classes, send email to mluebke@pdx.edu with the class and date you would like to register for. Please contact the workshop instructor if you have any questions.
Need directions? Please refer to the building locations for more information about where the workshops are held.
The IDSC is located next to User Support Services in the basement of Smith Memorial Student Union, Rm 18. The lab is available for self-service Monday through Friday starting at 8am, with support starting at 9am. Please do not disturb offices adjacent to the lab for support before 9am. Please note that the lab is closed for all university/state recognized holidays as indicated in the academic calendar.
The IDSC is currently conducting a survey on the Xerox Phaser 8860 printer and would greatly appreciate your participation. We are offering free printing on this printer until the end of the term.
In exchange, we are asking that you provide feedback on your experience with the printer including ease of use, drivers, output, quality, speed, networking, etc. The results of this survey will allow IDSC management to determine the small-format color printing needs of our lab users so that we can provide a more sustainable and cost-effective option in the future.
If you're too busy to complete projects in the lab, you can hire us to do the work for you for a nominal fee. Just be ready to provide a departmental or grant-based index code, personal check, or cash and we'll be glad to take on the work. We highly recommend that you review the copyright and liability policies prior to submitting a workorder.
Printing in the Portland State University general access computing labs is regulated by printing quotas. Each user is allocated 500 pages per term that do not carry over to the next term. Users that do not exceed their quota will not incur any charges.
The IDSC maintains black & white and color laserjet printers, color inkjet printers, and 2 wide-format inkjet printers. Basic specifications are described below.
All workstations in the IDSC lab are equipped with a standard set of hardware. Workstations are further divided into specialty areas for media development (i.e. web, graphics, video) and include additional peripheral equipment (i.e. scanners, VCR's, MiniDV). Both Mac and Windows platforms have equivalent hardware and software allowing lab users to work in the operating system of their choice. In addition to workstation hardware, we offer a wide variety of printers.
The IDSC does not directly distribute copies of the PSU logo, logotype, or other elements of the PSU identity.
While we do have a fully functional audio workstation, our facilities are not set up as a recording studio. Due to the effect ambient noise levels have on recording, as well as the possibility of disturbing other lab users, recording audio in the IDSC is not advised. However, our PC Audio workstation is perfect for digitizing Cassette Tapes, DAT tapes, and Vinyl records or any portable sound device (Minidisc, tape recorder, etc.) with an audio output.
