This article will describe the process of uninstalling PSU's McAfee VirusScan from your home computer. Like most anti-virus programs, McAfee VirusScan is resistant to uninstallation to protect itself from removal attempts by malicious software. This, however, means that it is also more difficult for you as an end user to remove it if you wish to use a different antivirus solution. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you leave your computer unprotected by any kind of security software.
Go to Add/Remove programs (Programs and Features in Vista) and select "McAfee VirusScan Enterprise" and select Uninstall.
We are changing the student virus scan procedure to include the option of re-installing their OS for a fee of $25(in addition to the $10 virus scan fee). We are also requiring anyone who would like us to do a virus scan on their machine to have backed up their data before we accept it for a virus scan and/or OS re-install.

PSU provides this software free of charge to students, staff, and faculty in an effort to ensure the highest possible level of security for our campus community. Since it is an enterprise-grade anti-virus solution, the quality of protection is higher than many other commercial anti-virus suites.
To ensure the integrity of the PSU network and to enforce the Acceptable Use Policy, there are certain issues that can cause a computer to be blocked from having internet access on campus:
1) Virus Jail: If you have a virus that is causing significant traffic on our network, the system will suspend your connection to the internet to prevent excessive network traffic and the further spread of the virus. You may get the following graphic when you try to access the internet.
PSU currently uses McAfee VirusScan Enterprise software for anti-virus protection on campus computers, and provides the software for students, staff, and faculty to install and use on home or other personal computers.
McAfee VirusScan for both Windows and Mac operating systems is available for pickup on the USS Software Security CD at the Help Desk, or as a downloadable installer accessible through the I: Drive's 'Software' folder.
